Strike When The Iron Is Cold

Seems that this blistery and snowy cold season is the perfect time for writers to bomb trains.  A local Philadelphia Septa rail train was spotted recently with a bit of "destruction" done to it.

8th Wonder James Brown Tribute Party

Next month we return to New York City for the 6th Annual 8th Wonder James Brown Tribute Party at LPR.  As always, it's a night of everything James Brown and related being spun via all vinyl by our special guest DJ's that we're excited to have back with us, Chairman Mao (EgoTrip) and Monk One (Wax Poetics) plus Kamui Sumida and myself.

Little Big Things

Next month I'll be back in the mix with the homies Case Bloom, Froz1 and Personify at their Little Big Things party at The Tressle Inn.  Funk, Soul, Latin and Disco 45s, Go Go Dancers and amazing Whiskey drinks always makes for a great night.

X-Men: Days of Future Past

I've been a fan of X-Men comics since the 70's and followed them pretty much until sometime in the 90's.  The movies have been rather up and down and still one of my favorites was X-Men First Class because it was set in the perfect time of the 60's where much of the storyline's took place.  I'm not sure how I feel about the new movie Days of Future Past and them bringing back cast members from several movies ago but hey, we'll see.  Anyway, Empire magazine has done a special 25 different covers for the upcoming issue which features various characters from the film including the Sentinel which i'm not sure if I really like the way if it was designed.

We Keep Coming Back With More And More Hits

Well it looks like the hit's continue as yet another New York City subway train has been bombed, this time by actual born and raised New Yorkers unlike the last which was by out of towners.  CET and VEW did a quick Spy vs. Spy theme on the R line recently.

Interview at 45 Live By Stefani Sarah

While in Rotterdam at the 45 Live offices, I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Stefani Sarah about music and DJing, how I got started and other cool things.

Kodoja Stomps Arizona

If your in Arizona this weekend and heading to Amazing Arizona Comic Con then be sure to stop by our booth and say what's up.  We've got our giant Kodoja all set up, issues #1-4 for sale, prints and more.

Bronx Bombers

Gotta love winter time train bombing action!  Late last night, two trains at the East 180th Street station (home of the 2's and 5's) in the Bronx were mysteriously bombed by writers identified as SEN, ORUS and SHADE of Barcelona's OTP Crew.  This carries on a long tradition of writers from outside of New York coming into the city just to piece and take a flick for history sake.

VENGEANCE!

Tomorrow night, Hot Peas & Butta returns to Fat Buddha in NYC for VENGEANCE!  We're dedicating the evening to Shaw Brothers Kung Fu flicks with a screening of a classic flick from 8-10pm and then from 10pm until, DJ Kamui Sumida and myself with will pulling from our crates while we show visuals on the projector the rest of the night.

Sound Traveler

This morning, the good folks over at Record Breakin' Music launched a new series called Sound Traveler and I am honored to have been the first in what will surely be a long line up of DJ's presenting mixes.  The mix that I have put together comes from an all vinyl selection of newly recorded songs  that I've received directly from artists and labels that I have had the pleasure of building great relationships with and who's music needs to be heard.  I also threw in a couple of my favorite cuts from previously recorded at albums as well.  The mix was done in all one shot, no edits or corrections, just letting the music go where it may.

Clarks x DOOM

I've been a lover and buyer of Clarks Wallabees since the late 80's and hold them in high regards as I would with Playboys and British Walkers.  But being a Hip Hop cat it's always good to see a clean and classy collaboration with someone like ol' Metal Face, DOOM that didn't make the shoe too Hip Hop.

Big Pimp Jones x Funk Night Records 7"

Hot Peas & Butta's own Big Pimp Jones recently released a new Funk 7" via Detroit's Funk Night Records.  A gritty slow burner of this nature is just what the good Funk Doctor ordered! Available at finer vinyl retailers world wide.

Japan Exclusive

My props to the homie DJ Nori in Japan for this exclusive West End Records 7" tote.

Capturing Art

Works from two of my favorite, artists Robert Mcginnis and Frank Frazetta (who is in my top 5 of all time).

I was first introduced to Frazetta in the late 70's after seeing his work on cover of the Conan comic book.  I was immediately captured with his portrayal of fantasy art and beautiful women.

Another of my favorite artists is Robert McGinnis who has created some of the most amazing images capturing the 1960's era, Spies and as well has his work on the James Bond posters.
